Vox is seeking an Executive Producer to lead its award-winning video team. At a time when the video landscape is rapidly changing, we need an innovator and leader who will shape a new strategy for Vox video going forward, preserving the explanatory DNA that is essential to Vox while also innovating and developing new formats and types of video journalism.
They should be ready and excited to experiment with new video storytelling formats, shaping Vox’s strategy for podcast video, social video, and talent-led video incorporating journalists from around Vox’s newsroom, as well as continuing the explainer videos Vox has become known for.
They will manage a team of video producers and be the senior most editorial decision-maker, determining personnel and assignments, and overseeing team operations. This person will be a senior leader at Vox and will collaborate with many other stakeholders across Vox and Vox Media.
Vox’s video team plays an important role in Vox’s overall editorial, revenue and membership efforts, and this person should be ready to lead the team’s strategy to succeed in all three areas. They will need to set a video strategy that is editorially strong and aligns with Vox’s explanatory mission while also working with business leaders to create and implement a sustainable business model for Vox’s video journalism.
This role reports to the VP, Development & Chief of Staff, Vox. This role is based in New York, as the Vox video team is located in New York, and is a hybrid role that will require some in-office days.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Managing a team of video producers, contributors from other teams, and managing freelance contributions to Vox video.
- Overseeing video editorial strategy in collaboration with Vox’s editorial leadership, general manager and director of audience.
- Partner with podcast leaders to develop a new podcast video strategy to bring more Vox podcasts to Vox’s Youtube channel, and help devise workflows to make this happen
- Develop strategy for talent-led video featuring Vox journalists and create new, low-lift formats for talent-led videos
- Develop and implement strategy to create more shortform video for social video platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube shorts
- Monitor analytics and other metrics of video performance and adjust strategies as needed
- Experiment with new ways of telling video stories
- Maintain high standards for Vox videos.
- Edit videos from script to final publish.
- Oversee production and budget needs for the video team, or delegate tasks to be overseen by other team members.
- Partner with the brand development team to support the growth of Vox’s video sponsorship business, including:
- Collaborate with the brand development team to create custom pitches that align with advertising partners’ needs, balancing editorial creativity with the clients’ marketing objectives
- Participate in external sales calls when needed alongside the brand development team to collaborate on deeply integrated video campaign
- Participate in internal sales and marketing sessions as needed to help communicate the value of Vox’s video offerings across the revenue organization, supporting and articulating the brand's unique value propositions
WHO YOU ARE
We’re looking for a creative, enthusiastic leader with a passion for Vox’s explanatory mission. You’ll have:
- 7+ years of experience in video journalism
- Experience as a people manager and team leader
- A willingness to innovate, change, and try new things
- A flexible, problem-solving mindset
- Experience with social-first video storytelling a plus
- Experience working with podcasts and/or video a plus
- Deep familiarity with YouTube video production, publishing, and analytics
- Expertise in coaching and growing on-air talent and mentoring junior staff
- Deep knowledge of production and post-production processes
- Ability to juggle multiple projects at various production stages in a fast-paced setting
- A deep understanding of the online video ecosystem (especially YouTube), including how audience consumption behaviors evolve and the formats and economics that drive those changes at a macro level
- A passion for Vox’s mission of helping audiences understand what really matters

The salary range listed below represents the minimum and maximum base pay for this position at the time of this posting. Final salary offered to the candidate selected for the position will be based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience.
