Associate Audience Editor, New York Magazine
Vox Media
The New York Magazine audience team helps our journalism reach readers wherever they are — on newsletters, social media, the app, or the homepage — while deepening engagement with our most loyal audiences.
We’re seeking an Associate Audience Editor to support New York Magazine’s growing audience operation. This role will work across newsletters, social accounts, and other distribution channels, helping create and maintain collaborative and efficient workflows, assisting in day-to-day publishing, and supporting the team as needed.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, organized multitasker, and detail-oriented editor who’s eager to learn all facets of audience development — from building newsletters to writing social copy to experimenting with meeting audiences wherever they’re at.
WHO WE ARE
New York Magazine obsessively chronicles the ideas, people, and cultural events that are forever reshaping our world. The New York brand includes the groundbreaking magazine New York, which is published biweekly in print, and six thriving verticals: Intelligencer, delivering national news and sharp commentary on politics, business, technology, and media; the Cut, covering the conversations that matter most to women today; Vulture, the premier destination for culture news, criticism, and service; the Strategist, dedicated to shopping the internet smartly; Curbed, covering cities and city life; and Grub Street, home to food news and authoritative restaurant criticism.
New York Magazine is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about what’s now, what’s next, and what’s possible.
As a community of journalists and storytellers, business professionals, creators and technologists, we believe it is a moral and business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization and media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, and our platforms, products, and partnerships.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Assist in producing and sending New York Magazine’s newsletters (familiarity with Sailthru a plus). Build and schedule sends, check links, and ensure newsletters meet editorial and production standards.
- Help draft and schedule social posts, assist with copy and visual asset coordination, and ensure all content aligns with the magazine’s editorial tone. Demonstrate a familiarity with or eagerness to learn about a broad range of social platforms.
- Possess strong news and editorial judgment to assist in programming homepage and app modules.
- Work closely across the newsroom to align on editorial priorities and coordinate coverage and rollout plans across platforms.
- Help create and maintain audience team workflows — including documentation, calendars (familiarity with Airtable a plus), and publishing processes — to ensure best practices.
- Serve as the audience team’s representative in coordinating and troubleshooting with platform reps. Help set up, verify, and maintain social media accounts across platforms, ensuring access permissions, branding, and bios remain consistent and secure.
- Step in to support audience team coverage during high-volume publishing or news moments, and provide team coverage as needed.
- Contribute ideas for new editorial products and subscriber engagement efforts, and learn to translate various metrics into editorial insights and strategy.
