Your mission

Within Teya we operate regulatory authorised entities such as the credit undertaking (type of bank) in Reykjavik, Iceland, and the EMI in London, UK. Both entity specific, and group wide, we manage risks, and are looking for an Operational risk leader, within the second line Risk Management Function, to lead the Operational risk Monitoring and Framework section, reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer.

Operational risk Monitoring & Framework section key focus areas:

  • Product risk: credit

Full time role to be based in the Reykjavik or London office.

Job Description

Key responsibilities for the role

Operational risk: monitoring, assessing, challenging the first line risk leaders, and managing a framework of risk control, testing and reporting, as relevant to a credit undertaking (type of bank) operating mainly with payments and cards across Europe.

  • Operational risk monitoring forms a part of the Risk Management Function second line of defence and responsibilities are accordingly.
  • The Operational risk monitoring & framework leader´s role is to provide subject matter leadership across the organisation, help build a team to further minimize Teya´s exposure to relevant operational risks, and to support first line risk leaders with their operational risk management and mitigation.
  • Develop understanding of, monitor, assess, manage and report on operational risks relevant to the business as a credit undertaking and payment service provider across Europe and Teya´s internal risk limits and rules. Key focus on merchant acquiring and relevant business risks.
  • Build and monitor relevant metrics. You will define, build, maintain and monitor key metrics (with the CRO), and help set targets for improvements of such key indicators.
  • Develop risk and control self-assessments. Monitor progress. Report.
  • Support the maintenance of relevant risk registers.
  • Build and monitor both global, regional and business specific strategies to minimise relevant operational risk, supporting the identification of key investments needed with Product, Data, Engineering and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop risk acceptance procedures and support Product development with enhancements of automated procedures of identifying relevant operational product risks and to monitor such effectively.
  • Support New Product and jurisdiction launches in relation to the above risks and mitigations.
  • Responsible for reporting: reporting to CRO, managing status and metrics reporting for operational risks within regions, jurisdictions, relevant regulated entities, and other Teyaverse to internal risk committees as well as external, when needed.
  • Communicate and share understanding with internal stakeholders and broader risk organisation.
  • Support the CRO in his other activities and responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements

  • Having up-to-date and subject matter expert knowledge of banking requirements relevant to operational risk management, in particular for credit undertakings and or similar regulatory authorizations, and business operating Merchant Acquiring and card payments across Europe.
  • Must have Merchant Acquiring risk management experience from a second line control function.
  • You are highly organized and unafraid to challenge and motivate yourself and others
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and relationship building skills
  • A strong sense of ownership, resilience, and drive to make an impact
  • Several years of professional experience, including some years in operational risk management within a second line

Nice to have

  • Experience in managing day-to-day risk across a variety of internal stakeholders
  • A strong background from risk management of a similar entity in similar business
  • Track-record of making data driven decisions
  • You are familiar with using SQL to extract and analyse data, and or other data warehouse tools, and or risk management tools
  • Excel skills, and still wanting to use it
  • Proactive in seeking and updating relevant knowledge and managing change to such with colleagues and teams across the business (project management experience a plus)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to execute on and deliver complex operational tasks under stressed conditions
