Job Summary:
OpenGov is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Intern to join our Legal Team. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Commercial and Employment, you will support a wide range of legal and operational initiatives, with a primary focus on commercial contracting and legal process improvement.
This is a hands-on opportunity to gain in-house experience at a fast-paced SaaS company serving the public sector. You will work closely with attorneys and cross-functional partners to support OpenGov’s mission to power more effective and accountable government.
Responsibilities:
Customer Contracting
Assist with drafting, reviewing, and organizing SaaS agreements, NDAs, and vendor contracts.
Support contract intake, tracking, and data entry in systems such as Salesforce and DocuSign.
Help build the AI contract repository.
Vendor, Partner, and Other Commercial Agreements
Assist with reviewing vendor, partner, and other third-party contracts, with a focus on balancing risk and business efficiency.
Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure contract terms align with internal policies and operational needs.
Process Improvement
Contribute to ongoing improvements to legal workflows, templates, and playbooks to support scalable, efficient legal operations.
Maintain and help organize contract records, approvals, and deal documentation.
Requirements and Preferred Experience:
Currently pursuing a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
Excellent judgment, strong attention to detail, and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset.
High ethical standards, sound judgment, and professionalism.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a willingness to learn and grow.
Coursework or prior experience in contract drafting, negotiation, or commercial law.
Interest in technology, SaaS, or government/public sector work.
Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Workspace, Slack, Salesforce, and DocuSign preferred.
Passion for OpenGov’s mission and values.
Additional Information:
This is an in-office role running from June through August. Candidates must be able to work onsite at least four days per week.

Compensation:
The hourly rate for this role is $20 per hour.
