Engineering Intern, Platform Modernization - Summer 2024
This role requires you to be in the Illumio HQ 4x a week. This is a 12-week summer internship that will take place during the summer of 2024.

As an Engineering Intern, you will have an opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in school to a real-world application of distributed systems engineering, working on a distributed system that is deployed in our SaaS, inside customer’s datacenters, and across geographic boundaries
We are looking for a motivated and passionate intern to join the platform team where you will help refactor, implement and deploy the next generation distributed platform for Illumio Core.
After learning the basics, you will be paired with a buddy and mentor, and own the entire lifecycle of a feature. You will design and deliver an elegant, simple, scalable, stable, secure, and supportable solution. Illumio protects the critical infrastructure of large enterprises – it must work.
We use Ruby primarily, with PostgreSQL and Redis in the data layer. You will use Kubernetes and multiple cloud platforms. We welcome people with backgrounds in other languages and technology stacks along with a desire to learn.
BS or MS degree in-progress in computer science/engineering or related technical field.
Proficiency in at least one higher-level programming language (e.g., Python, Ruby, Go).
Solid foundation in data structures and algorithms. Knowledge or interest in distributed systems and/or operating systems engineering.
Coursework or experience building and deploying webservices backed by relational databases.
Experience with Kubernetes and related cloud native orchestration and deployment tools is a bonus, but not required.
Coursework or experience with network and security is a bonus, but not required.
