The successful candidate is a self-starter with a passion for retail and vendor relationships; as well as a track record for successful negotiations and excellent business judgment.
We are looking for a Divisional Merchandise Manager to oversee Grove Collaborative’s Wellness, Baby, and Pet categories. The role is responsible for creating and executing strategies to deliver productive, innovative, profitable third-party product assortments on our platforms. It also oversees all third-party vendor relationships, driving mutually beneficial joint business plans, cost negotiations, and vendor-funded marketing activations.
This role is remote in one the 12 states where Grove executes payroll and reports directly to Grove’s VP of Merchandising.

Key Responsibilities

  • Defines the vision and business strategy for the category, including North Star metric(s) and KPIs for measuring results
  • Manages category P&L
  • Develops vendor relationships inclusive of negotiation terms and growth-focused initiatives
  • Devises clear frameworks for making day-to-day decisions
  • Foster relationships with vendors, including weekly calls and quarterly business planning with big vendors.
  • Negotiate funding programs to support Grove’s margin goals, including product cost, payment terms, accruals, marketing placements, promotions, samples, and volume incentives.
  • Partner with internal teams, including Site Merchandising, Marketing, Inventory Management, Analytics, and Creative

More About the Job

  • As a Senior Buyer, you will be accountable for the business results for your product categories (Wellness, Pet, and Baby). During a typical day, you would find yourself developing and executing the category strategy in partnership with your vendors
  • You will also lead contract negotiations and develop Joint Business Plans (JBPs) while partnering with internal stakeholder teams to deliver on this strategy.
  • Given your overall ownership of the Category P&L (topline, bottom-line), you will deep dive into key business metrics to prepare insights and explanations for the Weekly Business Review meeting and Monthly & Quarterly Business Reviews.
  • Among many other initiatives, you will own growing the vendor relationships, driving sales and margin improvements, and creating best-in-class customer experiences

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of account management or buying experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Must have a passion for eco/sustainable commerce
  • Proven data-driven decision-making skills, demonstrating the ability to gather, manipulate, and interpret large data sets
  • Experience using data to influence business decisions
  • Advanced Excel skills with strong computer and systems understanding; Looker experience a plus!
  • Exceptional leadership traits and a strong sense for mentoring others
  • Ability to make timely decisions, work in a fast-paced and often-changing environment
  • Experience with business analysis and P&L management

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience driving direction and alignment with cross-functional teams
  • Experience negotiating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Subscription and/or auto-replenishment business model experience
  • 2+ years of experience managing direct reports
  • MBA
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership
  • Experience in a related industry (e.g. grocery, CPG)
  • Start-up experience

  • This full-time, exempt position is remote in one of the 12 states where Grove has established payroll. The budgeted salary range is $140,000 - $165,000. This pay range is based upon the national average and may vary depending on geographical work location and experience level.
