About the Role:
Ethos is looking for an experienced actuary to join our team. You will be partnering closely with our actuarial, underwriting and product teams to identify opportunities to fine-tune and innovate our product, underwriting and pricing solutions. You will also work with other teams to identify and pursue new product and distribution opportunities. You will assist in identification of ideal industry partners and push them to accelerate the evolution of our product mix and risk practices to enable optimal customer experience.

The right candidate will have expertise in life insurance products, underwriting and pricing; experience working with varied stakeholders internally and externally; and be able to think differently to create value and capitalize on unrealized opportunities in the market. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the development and management of Ethos’ product and carrier strategy
- Bring new and innovative products to market by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
- Work with internal and external partners to identify opportunities to evolve existing products or modify product placement to maximize business economics
- Determine insurance product pricing and features in cooperation with partner carriers
- Review pricing for new products and product enhancements. Assist in the negotiation with carrier partners.
- Proactively monitor the competitive landscape and sales funnel performance to drive price and product enhancements
- Develop and execute appropriate pricing technology and methods
- Develop and maintain detailed models of Ethos profitability and the impact of major profit levers for our carrier partners
- Collaborate with Product Performance to establish pricing assumptions
- Provide insights to the underwriting and user experience team to support and guide the continuous improvement of underwriting guidelines and requirements while improving the user journey
- Deliver new products and product enhancements
- Work with multiple stakeholders to gather product, rate and rule requirements that are needed to deploy new insurance products or product enhancements.
- Develop and maintain insurance product specifications
- Review filing requirements and assist in the preparation of filings for regulatory authorities when needed; this includes actuarial memo, indication, and modeling-related supporting exhibits.
- Ensure achievement of pricing objectives
- Close the loop on pricing, collaborating with Product Performance and across Ethos to establish appropriate measurement systems
- Influence product routing and underwriting strategies to increase profitability
- Support creating action plans to correct underperformance
- Identify surplus carrier profit and ways to deploy the surplus for growth
- Deliver performance overviews to carriers on a regular basis
Qualifications and Skills:
- BS/BA in Mathematics, Statistics, or similar quantitative field
- FSA
- Deep understanding of life insurance products, underwriting and pricing
- Demonstrated pricing capabilities coupled with effective documentation
- Excellent written and oral communication, including understanding stakeholder needs and communicating effectively to your audience
- Are self-motivated and persistent to seek answers in a fast-paced startup environment
- Have a bias for action and are comfortable managing internal and external relationships to achieve the same
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills, including understanding stakeholder needs and communicating credibly and effectively to your audience
- Are detail-oriented and have strong mathematical foundations

The US national base salary range for this full-time position is $158,000 - $280,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
