As a Full Stack Engineer, you will play a crucial role in building, enhancing, and maintaining the renter-focused features on our platform. Working closely with product managers, designers, and data analysts, you’ll contribute to both backend and frontend development to support business objectives and deliver a seamless user experience. You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with engineering peers, engage in code reviews, and help establish best practices that foster a culture of high-quality engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Maintain Platform Features: Build and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services using Go and Ruby, while also developing responsive frontend components that enhance the renter experience.
- Develop and Maintain Platform Features: Ensure code quality, reliability, and maintainability across all projects.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with product, design, and other engineering teams to define project requirements and prioritize tasks that align with business goals.
- Contribute to Full Stack Development: Participate in both backend and frontend initiatives, from design through to deployment, ensuring services meet performance and scalability standards.
- Support and Improve System Performance: Assist in optimizing services for speed and scalability, helping to meet the needs of a growing user base.
- Promote Engineering Standards and Best Practices: Participate in code reviews, share knowledge, and help implement best practices to support a culture of continuous improvement.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 2+ Years of Engineering Experience: Proven experience building and maintaining software solutions, ideally across both backend and frontend environments.
- Backend Development Skills: Familiarity with building RESTful APIs, handling data integrations, and understanding backend logic and infrastructure.
- Frontend Development Skills: Proficiency with React or similar frameworks, delivering responsive, user-friendly interfaces that work seamlessly with backend services.
- Basic Database Management Skills: Experience working with relational databases, including basic schema design and query optimization.
- Understanding of Core Software Development Principles: Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and software design, gained through education or hands-on experience.
- Growth Mindset: Interest in continuous learning and openness to expanding skills in backend and frontend development.
- Experience with Go, Ruby, or Willingness to Learn: Comfort with or eagerness to develop proficiency in these programming languages.

Here's the Pay Range:
At Apartment List, we carefully consider a variety of factors to determine compensation for each position, including the role, level, and work. The Canadian base salary range (in CAD) for this position is:
- Zone 1: $103,000 - $125,000 base salary + equity
- Zone 2: $92,000 - $112,000 base salary + equity
** TTC = Total Target Compensation
This reflects the compensation target for new hire salaries for the position across all Canadian locations. Please note, the compensation details provided do not include benefits and perks that we offer.
We also rely on market indicators along with considering your work location, job related skills, experience and relevant education and training, to determine compensation that is fair and competitive for you. Apartment List will consider paying compensation near the higher of the range in exceptional circumstances, where candidates have the experience, credentials or expertise that would warrant such consideration.
